Dr. Sarah Kopencey

A LITTLE ABOUT ME…

I’ve been in the mental health field for over a decade providing direct clinical care, supervision, consultation, and trainings. I am originally from southern costal Maine, but came to Connecticut for my bachelor’s in Psychology from UCONN. I am a graduate of the doctoral program in clinical psychology at Antioch University New England.

I offer a unique perspective as someone with both the lived experience of an eating disorder and receiving doctoral training in the treatment of eating disorders. I am passionate about the social justice of deconstructing fat phobia and helping clinicians and clients examine their own biases. I also believe in the healing power of compassion focused interventions to help us release shame.

I enjoy being in multiple professional roles. In addition to seeing private clients, I am a parent educator and consultant for Peace at Home Parenting Solutions where I get to offer my expertise in eating disorders to parents in the community. I am also adjunct faculty at the University of Hartford where I am privileged to lead case conference seminar for doctoral students in clinical psychology. When I’m not teaching or with clients, I am busy being Mom to my two young daughters and going for walks with our family dog.
